Beery's Didgeridoo

Purchased raw and unfinished from L. A. Outback ; a beautiful unique instrument with a deep history. I wanted to create a mural on it of the story of the first didgeridoo, since it was in fact my own first didgeridoo. I found many legends, but I chose the tale related to me when I got mine.

Genuine termite hollowed eucalyptus Didgeridoo
Using the barkline as the earth.
Snake!
The burning camp fire.

The hollow log he fills with the termites found crawling on it.
He blasts the termites into the sky.
The termites, some with concerned expressions, fly into the heavens and become the stars.

What was done:

  • bore widened with rasp
  • sanded
  • burned
  • painted in acrylic
  • burned again
  • sanded again lightly
  • finished with 3 coats of varnish
  • beeswax mouthpiece applied

It's rough, but I like it, and I am playing it all the time. One of the only one of my instruments I can play since I burned the &^%$ outta my hand with the woodburner. D'oh!

**No Aboriginal designs were used in this artwork. The design is merely a personal interpretation of Aboriginal folklore as related to me when I purchase the instrument and found during brief research on the internet. I make no claims to be anything more than an interested novice.
